How to Transfer MP3 Files to Your Mobile Device
I remember the days when phones were actually used to make phone calls. Now, however, they seem to do everything else as well: send e-mails, browse the Internet, manage your day-to-day routines, wash your floors, rub your back. Well, maybe not the last few, but you get the idea. Your mobile device, as they're now called, can do just about anything that has to do with wireless communication. And, at the same time, they provide a ready source of entertainment, as you can also transfer music over to your device so long as you've got the right equipment, a device that supports MP3 playback and enough memory to handle those megabytes.
The most obvious way – and probably the most hassle-free method – of getting songs onto your mobile device is to hook it to your computer. The vast majority of devices which support MP3 playback will come with a USB cable that you can hook into your device and into your computer's USB ports to transfer music over. Doing this is basically the same as with any USB-capable device; If you're lucky (or if you have the right software downloaded) your computer will detect the device and pop up a screen where you can upload whatever you want. Some devices will have their own little programs for doing this while others will just open a folder, allowing you to drag and drop MP3s. Just make sure they go in the right folder if you want to be able to play them.
Not always, though. Sometimes your computer will not give you an automatic prompt, and if you'll have to do a bit of searching. On Macs this is pretty simple: generally a new drive will appear on your desktop, and you just need to open it up and stick in the proper MP3s. Be sure to drag the drive down to the trash bin when you're done. PCs are a teeny bit trickier, but not by much: if you're running Windows you'll have to go to the Start menu, then to My Computer. A list of drives will pop up. From there you just need to find the drive associated with your mobile device. Open it up and continue as normal. Again, remember to disconnect using the Safely Remove Hardware option, as just yanking the device out without doing so can corrupt the data on it.
There are two other options available, as well: bluetooth capability and direct download. If your device has bluetooth technology installed you can transfer songs from your computer, or even other devices, with relative ease. Or, for a fee, you can download straight from online sites, usually ones associated with your service provider. In either case how you do so is based on the device and your service provider.
